KK Hospital Health Endowment Fund

Because every woman and child deserves good health...

“Motherhood and childhood are entitled to special care and assistance.” (United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights)

Here at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, we believe that every woman and child deserves good health. The KK Hospital Health Endowment Fund (KKHHEF) raises funds to help needy patients, who very often have exhausted all options and are in need of financial assistance, for their medical treatment. The fund also supports education, research and disease prevention programmes targeted at women’s and children’s health.

As KKHHEF is totally dependent on donations, on behalf of the patients, we thank the generous donors who have literally saved lives by enabling the fund to continue with its work of giving financial support to needy patients.

You can be a part of this life-saving cause; we appeal to you for your kind and generous support.

Where does your money go?

To help needy patients.

Each year more than $1 million from the KKHHEF goes towards helping patients. We hope that by easing the financial burden of these patients who are sick and poor, they can focus on getting well and back on their feet.

Some of the patients that we are helping:

15-month-old Jeremy’s* cherubic smile never fails to melt the hearts of the doctors and nurses caring for him. Sadly, beneath the smile, is a baby who is suffering from HIV. He got it from his mother who tested HIV positive and is undergoing treatment at another hospital. Ever since his birth, Jeremy has been in and out of hospital frequently. His father who is a taxi-driver, cannot afford the hospital bills and his regular medication. You can help Jeremy lead as normal a life and for as long as possible by donating to the KK Hospital Health Endowment Fund.

Wei Chiang*, 13, has been suffering from osteomyelitis for more than a year now. Osteomyelitis is an infection of the bone which can be debilitating and painful. In some cases, it can become chronic.

Wei Chiang’s mother, who works as a clerk, is a single parent after her husband passed away ten years ago. He has a 17-year-old sister. The family of three is struggling to get by on his mother’s meagre income.

Recently Wei Chiang was put on linezolid, a drug to treat osteomyelitis. This medication costs over $20,000 for a course of nine weeks. Hopefully with treatment, Wei Chiang will be able to play football with his friends again. The family is grateful to have the KK Hospital Health Endowment Fund help pay for his treatment.

Research and education

Research enables us to find new treatments and cures for diseases. The results from one such research enabled the hospital to implement a faster and more cost-effective screening method for thalassaemia, a genetic blood disorder, so that we can detect and treat the disease early, and prevent it from becoming more severe.

The KK Hospital Health Endowment Fund (KKHHEF)

The KKHHEF was registered as a charity in 2002. It is administered by KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital and governed by a Board of Trustees. Donations to the fund are tax exempted.

Your donation whether big or small, goes a long way to make a difference in the lives of needy patients.
