Average Length of Stay of Community-Acquired Pneumonia for children admitted to KKH in 2008
The overall average length of stay (ALOS) for children admitted to KKH for community-acquired pneumonia in 2008 was 3.11 days, which is within the set target of 3.5 days. This target has been set according to the KKH clinical pathway for pneumonia and comparable to the ALOS of 3.04 days in the audit of all children recruited into the KKH clinical pathway for pneumonia who were discharged between 1 July and 30 September 2007.
The hospital’s ALOS of 3.11 days for children admitted for community-acquired pneumonia is comparable to the average length of stay of 3.4 days for discharges from short-stay hospitals for pneumonia (first listed diagnosis) in those under 15 years old in the United States.
The hospital will continue to improve upon the current ALOS figures with follow-up audit to be held yearly to ensure that not only does the hospital keep within the set target of 3.5 days but to improve further from the 3.11 days.
