Clinical Paediatric Endocrinology
Objective
A clinical attachment to enable doctors to manage common childhood endocrine disorders as well as acute endocrine and diabetes emergencies, to be familiar with endocrine stimulation testing and imaging studies and to be able to order appropriate tests and interpret the test results.
Course Contents
The observer/fellow will have
- Clinical exposure and teaching on diagnostic approach and management of simple to complex endocrine and diabetes cases both at inpatient and outpatient levels
- Training on endocrine procedures, stimulation tests, and use of diagnostic work ups and insulin pumps, growth hormone administration and exposure to laboratory methods in paediatric endocrinology
Method
- The three-month clinical observership is a non-hands-on programme that integrates the doctor in the specialist inpatient and outpatient endocrine programme, the diabetes nursing roster and the endocrine testing schedule. This permits close clinical exposure to specialised team-based care of children with endocrine and diabetes problems.
- Clinical fellowships (six-months and above) fully integrates the doctor into the department and permits the doctor to be directly involved in patient care, make entries into the patients’ case notes, communicate care plans to patients and fellow professionals and perform procedures under direct supervision.

Pre-requisite
All applicants must fulfill the requirements for temporary registration with the Singapore Medical Council (
www.smc.gov.sg).
Duration
- Three-month clinical observerships
- From six to 12 month clinical fellowships
Training Dates/Period
3-month clinical observerships are from April to June and October to December
Clinical fellowships may be planned and preferred dates indicated upon application
Certification
Doctors will be provided with a certificate of completion
Positions / Training Places
Doctors with prior experience in paediatric and adolescent endocrinology who are interested in applying for a paid service/training role as Clinical Fellow in Endocrinology may submit an application.
Course Fee
For clinical observership, the fee may range from SGD$500-800 per month.
For clinical fellowship, the fee may range from SGD$800-1000 per month.
Funding
Candidates should be self-funded or have funding from external sources/institutions.

Paediatric Diabetes Nursing
Objective
A nursing attachment to enable nurses to provide paediatric diabetes education and counselling as well as advanced diabetes care.
Course Contents
The nurse will have:
- Clinical exposure to diabetes education and counselling at inpatient and outpatient levels
- Training on blood glucose monitoring, insulin therapy, Continuous Glucose Monitoring System and insulin pump
Method

A two-week posting in Paediatric Diabetes Nursing is an attachment to Diabetes Nurse team observing diabetes education and counselling conducted at inpatient and outpatient levels and incorporating training on diabetes care skills.

A two-week posting in Insulin Pump Nursing provides training in care and management of insulin pump as well as the initiation and follow-up care of insulin pump therapy.
