Objective
The aim of the programme is to provide a broad based environment in a Children's Hospital/referral centre, in which the fellow will develop into an independent and competent paediatric nephrologist with expertise in patient care, teaching and research.
Course Contents
The programme provides:
- Clinical exposure and teachings on diagnostic approach and management of complex renal cases both at inpatient and outpatient levels
- Training where applicable (paediatric sub-specialty training) on procedures required of nephrologists such as renal biopsy and peritoneal dialysis
- Guidance in the design and critical analysis of projects and clinical studies on renal diseases
Method
- Regular clinical exposure on inpatient and outpatient basis with supervision and guidance.
- Regular interactive teaching sessions
- Participation in projects and clinical studies

Post-graduate doctors with special interest in Paediatric Nephrology
Pre-requisite
A recognized medical degree (MBBS, MD) and a post graduate specialist training in paediatric medicine (M Med Paeds or MRCPCH).

Advanced paediatric training |
Nephrology training of up to 6 months with possibility of leading to subspecialised nephrology training (excluding renal biopsy and dialysis)

One-year posting
Subspecialised (nephrology) training |
- Training of up to one year, which include all aspects of peadiatric nephrology including renal biopsy and histological interpretation as well as dialysis methods and prescriptions.
- Training in other procedures including acute peritoneal dialysis procedure and prescription. Continuous veno-venous haemodialysis (CVVH) is also included. Part of training may also include exposure in a dialysis/transplant centre

Course Fee
Hands-on fellowship:
Administration & Processing Fee: SGD$150
Fellowship Fees: SGD$800 to SGD$1,000/month
For hands-on fellowship, Singapore Medical Council (SMC) registration and medical indemnity coverage are required.
SMC Application Fees: SGD$180 (approximate, correct as of January 2009)
Indemnity Coverage (by MPS): SGD$490 (approximate, correct as of January 2009)
Non hands-on fellowship (Observer):
Administration & Processing Fee: SGD$50
Fellowship Fees: SGD$500 /month
Funding
Candidates should be self-funded or have funding from external sources/institutions.
