Paediatric Airway Course
Objective
For training of otolaryngologists (trainees as well as specialists who wish to know more about how to deal with paediatric airway diseases), anesthetists and internists who deal with children with airway diseases.
Course Contents
Diseases covered:
- Laryngomalacia: clinical features management cases
- Subglottic hemangioma: clinical features management cases
- Laryngeal papillomatosis: clinical features management cases
- Flexible bronchoscopy
- Rigid endoscopy demonstration on instruments
- Briefing of workshop on rabbits
- Diagnostic laryngoscopy, telescopic bronchoscopy diagnostic laryngoscopy, rigid bronchoscopy therapeutic laryngoscopy and rigid bronchoscopy flexible bronchoscopy
- Evaluation of stridor in infants and children
- Anaesthesia for airway endoscopy
- Congenital laryngeal anomalies, including subglottic stenosis
- Tracheal pathology and stenting
- Laryngeal cleft
- Vocal cord paralysis
- Prolonged intubation trauma of the larynx, including subglottic stenosis
- Application of mitomycin
- Foreign bodies in the airway
Method
- Lecture series (please see content; lecture topics may change yearly)
- Hand-on bronchoscopy practice on rabbits
- Live surgeries on children with common airway diseases
