| The KK Urogynaecology Centre is the only one-stop centre in Asia, offering a full range of Urogynaecology services including clinical consultation, urodynamics studies and physiotherapy on the same day. The Centre sees 1900 new cases, 4,500 follow-up cases and does 1,600 urodynamics studies a year
We perform at an average of 15 urogynaecology surgeries a week. We are the first in the region to perform tension-free vaginal tape procedure (to date more than 1,000 procedures have been done) and the new trans-obturator surgery for incontinence. We are the opinion leader in incontinence surgery, pelvic floor reconstruction and management of bladder dysfunction.
The fellowship in Urogynaecology offers comprehensive approach to incontinence, bladder dysfunction and pelvic floor reconstruction.

Month 1 - 3
- Report to supervising officer, UG Centre.
- Briefing on departmental activities and role in department
- Orientation tour of hospital facilities.
- Attend all operative sessions and clinics of unit
- Assist operative cases
- Attend Centre’s activities
- Attend urodynamics clinics
Review session to assess progress at the end of 3 months and plan changes to remainder of program for Fellows here for 6 months or more.
Month 4 - 12
- Assist at operative and clinic sessions. Hands-on surgery start from the 4th month.
- Participate in development of patient education and training material. Selection and translation of pamphlets and video tapes for teaching of doctors, paramedical staff and patients
- Participate in research, teaching, workshops, conferences and departmental activities

Expected learning / learning objectives
The objective of this Fellowship is to expose the Fellow to the basic understanding of the various forms of urogynaecology and bladder dysfunction. The training programme thus equip the Fellow with up-do-date knowledge on Urogynaecology and also kindles the scientific temperament of the Fellow by way of active academic discussion, journal clubs, publications, workshops, conferences and research. There will also be excellent opportunities in research, teaching, networking and participation in workshops and conferences. The Fellow will finish the training as a well-rounded Urogynaecologist.
On completion, the fellow will
- Be well-versed in clinical management of urogynaecology patients, pre-and-post operatively, in conservative management and in surgeries including slings (TVT, trans-obturator), Burch colposuspension, vaginal hysterectomy, anterior and posterior repairs with mesh, abdominal sacrocolpopexy and sacrohysteropexy, sacrospinous hysteropexy, sacrospinous fixation, fistula repair and cystoscopy.
- Be well trained in urodynamics studies
- Receive excellent opportunities in research, teaching, networking and participation in workshops and conferences.

Teaching Programme

Training and TeachingThe Fellow will gain extensive experience in all aspects of urogynaecology – both preventive, conservative, surgical and post surgical management.
The Fellow will be expected to continue with existing retrospective research, to set up prospective trials, which may be continued by subsequent fellows, and to initiate basic research projects, which may be aided by other junior staff in the hospital. The Fellow will be expected as well to take part and to contribute to the teaching of the junior staff.
The Fellow will be provided a protected half-day each week for scholarly activities. He/she will be expected to make presentations at national/international meetings and initiate clinical studies leading to publications in index journals.

Evaluation The fellow's progress in knowledge, clinical and operative skills, and ethical management of patients will be evaluated on a continuous basis by the faculty involved in the training. Formal evaluation of the fellow's progress will be at a meeting of the Urogynaecology faculty. The fellow will be debriefed by the Coordinator at the end of their Fellowship Programme.Weeks of didactic core lectures for general paediatric conditions every 6 months. |
