Description
The Paediatric Emergency Medicine Department of KK Hospital is Singapore's first and largest paediatric emergency department with an annual patient load of more than 100 000. We see children aged 0 to 16 years old with a variety of acute and ambulatory paediatric problems, both medical and surgical.
Our current patient load is about 250 to 300 patients a day. We see a variety of paediatric medical and surgical conditions. Our staff are trained to acutely manage and stabilise various acute medical and surgical conditions.
We carry out various minor surgical procedures within the department like toilet and suture of wounds, manipulation and reduction of fractures, incision and drainages of abscesses and removal of foreign bodies. These are done usually under procedural sedation and analgesia or conscious sedation.
We run Singapore's largest paediatric trauma service and are equipped to handle major paediatric trauma as a Children's Hospital.
We are the main paediatric center for Singapore's paediatric mass disaster response, both for conventional as well as hazmat situations.
We have a strong Child Safety Outreach service and are constantly involved in giving talks and lectures to the public and the community. We also have a Childhood Injury Surveillance Programme.
We maintain a paediatric poisoning registry and are linked with the Singhealth Drug and Poison Information Centre.
