| Programme in Critical Care |
| The Children's Intensive Care Unit (CICU) is a 12-bedded multi-disciplinary ICU that cares for medical, surgical and post-operative cases. Annual admission is just below 700 with a mortality rate of about 6%.
The Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) is a separate unit dedicated to the newborn.
The Fellowship in Critical Care is a subspecialty training programme affiliated with the Department of Paediatric Medicine. Dr Loh Tsee Foong, Head of the Children's Intensive Care Unit will direct the Critical Care Fellowship. | | |

| Patient Care |
| There are 2 full time paediatric intensivists, and an in-house paediatric registrar, with 2 medical officers attached to the ICU.
Technology includes invasive and non-invasive ventilatory support and high frequency ventilation. Ribavirin aerosal and isoflurane inhalation can be administered. Inhaled Nitric Oxide is possible for patients with pulmonary hypertension and severe hypoxemia. Renal replacement therapy and intra-aortic balloon pump support are available. | | |

| Services |
| Other services administered through the CICU includes: |
- Homecare services: Patients discharged with technological support will be under this service, where family members are taught how to care for their child at home, and given the home support required.
- Children's Hospital Emergency Transport Service, coordinated by the CICU, for retrieval and repatriation of patients to and from Singapore.
- Paediatric Resuscitation Courses: CICU staff, through the Singapore Paediatric Society and Ministry of Health, organise paediatric resuscitation courses for parents and advanced courses for healthcare workers looking after children.
- Codes: Organisation of Code Teams were initiated by the CICU and mock codes are conducted on a regular basis.
- The ICU team is a resource for peripherally inserted long lines and central lines.

| Teaching |
| Fellows will learn through patient care and bedside teaching each morning. Formal teaching includes: |
- Monday CICU Grand Rounds
- Tuesday CICU in-service lectures
- Fortnightly CICU Journal Club
- Monthly Mortality rounds
- Mock Codes for hospital staff

| In addition, the programme receives significant teaching from Department of Paediatric Medicine and other services as illustrated above. | | |
| |
| One Year Posting |
- 1 month posting in Paediatric Anaesthesia to learn airway management, line insertion and observe major surgery.
- 2 weeks in Children's Emergency to observe resuscitation and emergency care
- 2 weeks in neonatal ICU as observer
- 10 months in CICU, with possible attachment to related services like cardiology and respiratory medicine. Hands-on preferred.

Fellows are expected to attend an Advanced Resuscitation in Children Course & Fundamental Critical Care (FCCS) course in that period. | | |
