Content
  • Management of haematological and oncology problems like haemorrhagic and coagulation disorders, nutritional, aplastic and haemolytic anaemias, blood transfusions and related serology, laboratory haematology, leukaemias, lymphomas and solid tumours.
  • Management of bone marrow transplant patients.
  • Basic knowledge of the biology of neoplastic disease including aetiology, epidemiology, pathology and natural history.
  • Aspects of oncology including screening, cytology, immunology, haematology, biochemistry, radiology and nuclear medicine.
  • Acquire knowledge of the pharmacology and side effects of chemotherapeutic agents and the role of radiotherapy and surgery.
  • General management of cancer patients including psychological and social support, rehabilitation and terminal care.
 
First Year
  • Emphasis on clinical training in general paediatric haematology / oncology at inpatient and outpatient level.
  • Involvement in implementation of protocols for treatment of cancer.
  • Some laboratory involvement including bone marrow reading.
 
Second Year
  • Increasing responsibility in the management of patients.
  • Direct involvement in management of bone marrow transplant patients.
  • Increasing laboratory involvement including histopatholgy, immunology and research.
