Antenatal Programme

Congratulations! You are going to be a mummy.

Pregnancy is probably the most exciting period in any woman's life. It is a time of happiness and joy. But it will also be a time of great emotional and physical change. For you, it may mean a whole new awareness of your body as it prepares itself for the birth of your baby. In the meantime, you may be asking:

  • Are there any types of food I should aviod?
  • What happens if I get an infection?
  • What medications should I avoid?
  • How do I know when I am in labour?
  • Can I cope with labour pain?
  • Will I get back to shape after delivery?

We have therefore planned an antenatal programme which you will find very useful.

Programme Details

Part 1 (Starts at 16 weeks of gestation)

  • Child bearing journey
  • Good nutrition during pregnancy

  • Looking after yourself during pregnancy

Part 2 (Starts at 22 weeks of gestation)

  • Labour and delivery
  • Pain relief in labour
  • Relaxation
  • Coping with 1st stage of labour

  • Labour rehearsal and postnatal exercise

  • Breastfeeding

Part 3 (A Talk on "Nurturing Your Child")

The arrival of a newborn brings both joy and responsibility to parents. There is probably no transition more challenging than the arrival of the first child. This workshop is designated to prepare the couples emotionally for this challenge and to provide them with practical tips for parenting. Participants will find this workshop informative and enriching and fathers will have greater awareness of their tremendous role in influencing their children. Talk is brought to you by Centre for Fathering, jointly with KK Hospital.

Schedule:

Part 1 & 2 : Total of 9 one-and-a-half hourly sessions
Part 3 : 1 three-hour session

Fee

KKH Patients
S$120 for weekday classes (deposit $60)
S$150 for Saturday classes (deposit $75)

Non-KKH Patients
S$150 for weekday classes (deposit $75)
S$180 for Saturday classes (deposit $90)

A 50% deposit is required upon registration. Should you cancel the registration, the deposit amount will not be refunded.

Size of Class:

Minimum of 8 couples
Maximum of 12 couples

Your husband is encouraged to join you for every session as you will find his support invaluable during and after your pregnancy. If your husband is not available, then your mother may accompany you for this programme.

Aqua Fitness In Pregnancy

This is an exercise programme for expectant mothers. Our physiotherapist will take you through an exercise programme consisting of warm ups, flexibility and strength training, and a cardiovascular workout for those who are keen to keep fit and healthy during pregnancy. The use of water buoyancy and resistance with a well-designed programme will help you achieve physical and mental wellness.

  • Warm up
  • Flexibility stretches
  • Strengthening training of pelvic floor, back and abdominal muscles
  • Aqua-aerobic/ low impact workout
  • Cool down
  • Monitoring optimal exercise intensity

Baby Massage Class

Are you at a loss as to how to handle your fretful child or how to ease your child’s colic discomfort? If you are, we welcome you to attend our one-hour baby massage workshop conducted by our physiotherapists.  This programme is tailored for babies between one to 12 months old. You will learn the various techniques in baby massage and experience the joy of bonding with your child through touch.

  • Creating a conducive environment for massage

Postnatal Home Care

Motherhood is an exciting period in any woman's life. It can also be a time of great emotional and physical change, especially for new mothers. Postnatal Home Care has been developed to provide new mothers with the additional support and care after mother and baby are discharged from hospital after delivery. Personalised visits to the home by an experienced midwife equip the new mother with practical skills and knowledge that are a source of comfort and reassurance as she adjusts to the needs of her newborn.

The postnatal service is now available for partients of KK Women's and Children's Hospital and Singapore General Hospital. It offers postnatal care at an affordable price, giving new mothers convenient and accessible care in the comfort of their own home.


Services Provided:

Baby bathing and techniques on baby feeding.

Advice on:
* Personal Hygiene
* Diet and Nutrition
* Common newborn conditions such as 
  jaundice, nappy rashes, excessive crying, 
  poor feeding
* When to seek medical attention
* Immunisation programme

Pre / Postnatal Fitball Class

Prenatal / postnatal fit ball class is an exercise program specially designed for expectant women and women in early motherhood.  The class incorporates the use of fitball, which is a safe and effective tool to firm up your abdominal and hip muscles.  It gives you a good workout and also speeds up your recovery following the birth of your baby.  Specific exercise and modifications are considered for different level of fitness.  A specially trained physiotherapist with experience in women's health conducts this program.
