You are a private patient if you:

• Have no referral from a doctor (i.e. self-refer) or
• Are referred by a private practitioner or hospital or
• Are referred by a restructured hospital where you are a private patient or
• Are discharged from inpatient A or B1 Ward Class 
• Are a foreign resident or non-resident
  

You are a subsidised patient if you:

• Are a Singaporean or Singapore PR and referred by a polyclinic or
• Are referred by a restructured hospital where you are a subsidised patient or
• Are discharged from inpatient B2 or C Ward Class
