Specialist Outpatient Clinics,
Level 1, Women's Tower

The Antenatal Monitoring Clinic (AMC) is a one-stop facility for the assessment of the foetus in the early stages of a woman's pregnancy.

Expectant mothers delivering at KK Hospital enjoy same-day, walk-in privileges for the following services:

Ultrasound services for the assessment of the gestation of the pregnancy, thereby providing an accurate dating of the pregnancy and the estimated delivery date.
Ultrasound services for the assessment of early pregnancy problems like vaginal bleeding and abdominal pain in pregnancy.
Ultrasound services for screening of Down's Syndrome in the early stages of pregnancy.
Ultrasound services for the diagnosis of multiple pregnancies, e.g., twin pregnancies.

Down's Syndrome Screening

Patients will be given detailed information regarding the risks, benefits and limitations of the different methods of screening and diagnosis of Down's Syndrome in the foetus. These methods include

Ultrasound scan
Blood test for Down's Syndrome (serum screening)
Amniotic fluid assessment (amniocentesis)
Placental tissue studies (chorionic villus sampling).

The AMC is supported by a fully equipped, on-site laboratory where all blood tests or serum screening for Down's Syndrome are performed and conducted under stringent regulatory conditions and audit.

Screening for Thalassemia

Screening for thalassemia, the most common inheritable blood disorder, is also available at the AMC. Couples who are thalassemia carriers will be given information regarding the risks of the pregnancy being affected with thalassemia and the risks and limitations of the tests for prenatal diagnosis.
