KK Eye Centre is the only dedicated paediatric eye clinic within a children's hospital in Singapore and the region, making cross-specialty referrals efficient and fast.
The Centre boosts large consultation rooms and a spacious colourful waiting area to make children feel comfortable and welcome. The rooms are designed to facilitate the smooth flow of patients from one area of eye tests and investigations to the next.
In Singapore, the KK Eye Centre is the only facility with the retinal imaging system Retcam, which is important for documenting and following up serial changes in retinal lesions in children after treatment, such as a form of eye cancer in children known as retinoblastoma.
The KK Eye Centre is also the leading centre for the management of paediatric cataracts. Babies and young children with cataracts require highly specialised care and prompt treatment because untreated cataracts can have lasting adverse effect on visual development.
Although the prevalence of paediatric cataract is low, our team of experienced paediatric ophthalmologists at the KK Eye Centre treat about 15-20 babies and children each year, both from Singapore as well as those referred from the region, such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam.
Our Centre uses state-of-the-art equipment and has successfully implanted intraocular lenses in children as young as 1 year old. Our success rate for paediatric cataract surgery is comparable to many other reputable centres in the world.
It also has the biggest number of experienced paediatric ophthalmologists in the country and the region, assisted by clinic staff experienced in caring for children.
