The Endocrine Service provides comprehensive clinical services in the evaluation, diagnosis and management of all paediatric and adolescent endocrinology disorders through its inpatient and outpatient services.

What is Endocrinology?

Endocrinology is a medical subspecialty that deals with disorders of glands in the human body. In children, these glands are of particular importance as they produce hormones necessary for optimal growth, puberty development and general well-being.

We provide care for the following conditions:

• Paediatric and adolescent diabetes
• Pre-diabetes - severe obesity and impaired glucose tolerance
• Disorders of growth and stature
• Disorders of puberty and sexual development
• Childhood thyroid disease
• Pituitary and hypothalamic disorders
• Adrenal disorders
• Ambiguous genitalia and intersex disorders
• Paediatric bone disease - osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency

Paediatric & Adolescent Diabetes Programme:

We offer an integrated service comprising:

• Diabetes Screening for Children & Adolescents
• Newly Diagnosed Diabetes Care
• Continuing Diabetes Care & Complications Assessment
• Insulin Pump Initiation and Follow Up Services
• Transition to Adult Diabetes Care

Children’s Growth Clinic:

• Referral centre for children with growth disorders
• Assessment and management of children with short or tall stature
• Education of families and patients commencing growth hormone therapy
