As a referral centre, we manage a large number of children with wide-ranging kidney diseases, from simple to complex problems, in outpatient and inpatient settings.
The outpatient clinic alone managed about 3000 patients in years 2002-2003. Full supportive facilities are available for optimal management of patients. These include real-time ultrasound guided renal biopsies with full histopathological reports; detailed imaging and functional studies of the kidneys and the renal tract e.g. DMSA, DTPA, MAG3, uroflowmetry and urodynamic studies.
Common renal diseases managed here include:
- Nephrotic Syndrome and various glomerulonephritis
- Acute pyelonephritis and urinary tract infection
- Vesicoureteric reflux and reflux nephropathy
- Glomerular diseases including asymptomatic microhaematuria and proteinuria
- Voiding problems like frequency / enuresis / incontinence
- Fluid / electrolyte problems / tubulopathies
- Acute renal failure with provision for peritoneal dialysis and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)
Outpatient Renal Clinics include:
- General nephrology clinic which runs daily from Monday to Friday.
- Voiding problem clinic - a comprehensive multi-disciplinary one-stop clinic that runs every Wednesday (morning and afternoon)
- Other referral clinics (by appointment)
- Lupus nephritis clinic
- Spina bifida clinic
