The Respiratory Medicine Service delivers a busy outpatient service, and also handles the inpatient respiratory referrals from neonatology, surgical and other paediatric disciplines. We take pride in leading 2 national programmes - the National High Risk Asthma Shared Care (NASC) programme, also known as Singapore National Asthma Programme (SNAP) the evaluation of severely obese children with obstructive sleep apnoea.   Office   Location Level 2, Children's Tower Telephone 6394 1127 Fax 6394 1114 Range of Services: General respiratory disorders Asthma management Asthma counselling is an integral aspect of the overall management of asthma, and is conducted by our experienced asthma nurse educators. We aim to educate the patients on the disease process and the need for compliance to treatment. The inhaler techniques are taught and reinforced in each visit, and an action plan given to empower the parents with coping skills for an asthma exacerbation. Chronic lung disease follow-up Respiratory infection Sleep associated breathing disorders General sleep disorders Pulmonary assessment We have a complete pulmonary function laboratory capable of performing spirometry measuring lung volumes and diffusion studies as well as challenge tests. The availability of the skin allergy testing complements the tests available to fully evaluate an atopic individual with asthma. Paediatric flexible bronchoscopy Video polysomnography Our sleep laboratory consists of a 2-bedded facility capable of doing 8 sleep studies a week. The video polysomnography and the sleep latency tests allow the clinician to fully evaluate a wide range of sleep disorders including sleep apnea, hypersomnias, and periodic limb movement disorders.
