The Department of Paediatric Surgery was established in 1982 at the Singapore General Hospital, and moved to KK Women's and Children's Hospital in May 1997 when the Paediatric Medicine Departments of Singapore General, Tan Tock Seng and Alexandra Hospitals were centralised to form a fully fledged Children's Hospital.
As a fully-staffed department, we provide complete cover for all elective and emergency surgery in children from birth to 16 years of age (sometimes even older, with complicated congenital anomalies). Total surgeries average over 4,000 a year.
We maintain strong and dynamic relationships with the Departments of Paediatric Medicine and Neonatalogy, nursing and ancillary staff, cooperating to provide a comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach to all our patients. Being located in a full-service Women's and Children's Hospital means we also have in-house assistance and expertise from the gynaecology services in those of our female patients who might need gynaecological surgery.
