Nose bleeds are a common in children.
They are usually not serious conditions & result from irritation to the normally fragile surface of the nasal lining.
When there are nose bleeds:

Sit the child up and lean forward to prevent swallowing of blood |
|
• |
Pinch the tip of the nose |
|
• |
Do NOT insert tissues, gauze into the nose |
|
• |
If the bleeding persists for more than 15 minutes, see a doctor | |
For the next few days:
|
• |
Avoid further irritation to the nose |
|
• |
Instruct the child to blow his nose gently | |
See doctor when:
|
• |
Nose bleeds become more frequent and difficult to stop |
|
• |
There is blood elsewhere, e.g. in stools, urine and tears |
|
• |
The child seems to bruise easily or bleeds from wounds are difficult to stop |
|
• |
There are rashes / bruises on the skin and the child appears pale, tired, ill | | |
|
|
|
