Our Programmes (For Women and Children)
Fitness Assessments
Our Sports Medicine Service provides the following assessments:
1. Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
Approximate duration: 30 mins
The Resting Metabolic Rate assessment is an objective test to analyse an individual's energy expenditure at rest. This is the basic amount of energy your body needs for day-to-day functioning of your vital organs. Results from this test can provide useful information for nutritional and exercise counselling, especially in weight management programs. A detailed report is provided.
2. Maximal Exercise Test (VO2max)
Approximate duration: 60 mins
The Maximal Exercise Testing is a gold standard for determining an individual's aerobic fitness. The test requires individuals to walk or run on a treadmill to maximal effort or volitional exhaustion. Using gas exchange analysis, an individual's maximal oxygen consumption is determined. The test is suitable for both children and adults, with or without medical conditions. Results from this test provide useful information on an individual's current fitness or functional capacity and can be used for exercise prescription. A detailed report will be provided.
3. Balance Test
Approximate duration: 30 mins
Good balance is important for sports, daily physical function and most importantly, falls prevention. A Balance Test shows the degree and direction of sway while standing still on a balance plate under different conditions, such as when eyes are open or closed, and standing on firm and soft surfaces. The test benefits those with poor balance, especially elderly adults. The results highlight weak areas and provide useful information for exercise prescription. A detailed report is provided.
4. Muscular Strength Test
Approximate duration: 15 mins
Muscle strength and muscle endurance are important for optimal sports performance and daily physical function. For both upper and lower body muscle groups, muscle strength and endurance can be assessed using either isometric or isotonic exercises. Results from this test provide useful information for exercise prescription and can benefit both athletes and non-athletes, including older adults. A detailed report is provided.
5. Speed and Agility Test
Approximate duration: 15 mins
Performance in sports is not only about being the strongest. Being quick and agile allows an individual to get quickly into a position required for sports or even daily function. Depending on individual sports or physical requirements, a series of tests are administered to assess one’s speed and agility. Based on the results, our Sports Medicine specialists can advise on the areas that need to be work on, and provide an optional conditioning programme. A report is provided.
