Language Intervention Model

School-based Language Intervention Model for Primary School Children with Language Delay

Language is an indispensable tool that helps children communicate their needs, desires and ideas. It is also the primary tool for learning and demonstrating what they have learnt. Children with difficulties in a combination of language areas such as vocabulary, morphology (the structure of words), phonology (the pattern of sounds) and syntax (arrangements of words in a sentence) may face problems in learning to read and write. It may also interfere with their ability to comprehend what is read. These children will require higher levels of support to access Singapore’s mainstream education curriculum.

The Department of Child Development and Rehabilitation Centre at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) with support from Temasek Foundation Cares will be looking at whether a school-based language intervention model for primary school children with language delay can address persistent literacy difficulties in children with language and literacy difficulties.
