SEM@KKH offers a comprehensive range of services (clinical and exercise programmes) for women, children and adolescents regardless of their fitness levels and health profile.
SEM@KKH recognises that women today may experience unique problems and conditions throughout their different life stages from adolescence to menopause. We work together with a team of dedicated and experienced healthcare professionals to design individualised exercise programmes which aims to assist every patient in reaching their health goals towards a positive, active and a healthy lifestyle.
The Women’s Fitness programme is for those who wish to gain control of their health and improve their fitness. This programme aims to empower individuals with knowledge, skills, and strategies to improve their lifestyle through an evidence-based approach.
Who is eligible?
Patients referred for weight management through family doctors (GPs), Polyclinics or KKH Gynaecology will be seen at the Weight Management Clinic under the KKH Family Medicine Service.
During the initial visit the Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) will conduct a Physical Activity and Lifestyle Counselling (PAC) session to assess the patient's current physical activity status and recommend suitable strategies to kick-start an active lifestyle.
Patients are required to undergo a Fitness Assessment prior to commencing their first exercise session. The fitness components that are measured during the assessment include but are not limited to: Body Composition, Flexibility, Muscular Strength and Endurance, Aerobic Fitness.
Baseline results obtained during the Fitness Assessment would go towards developing an individualised exercise programme for the patient which would then be carried out under the guidance and supervision of the CEP.
The Women’s Strength and Conditioning programme is tailored for women with existing chronic medical conditions looking to improve their health through physical activity. This programme focuses on enhancing muscular strength and endurance, building aerobic fitness, strengthening bones, improving balance and managing pain. Our Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) will develop and supervise all activities to ensure a safe and conducive environment for patients to learn and take charge of their health.
Upon referral from a KKH physician, patients will be scheduled for a Fitness Assessment. The assessment includes: Body Composition, Flexibility, Functional Strength, Aerobic Fitness, and Balance.
The Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP) will also conduct a Physical Activity and Lifestyle Counselling (PAC) to assess and understand the patient's current physical activity status and health goals. Baseline results obtained during the Fitness Assessment will go towards developing an individualised exercise programme.
Programme may include understanding and executing resistance, aerobic and/or balance exercises depending on the patient’s goals.
