Timely Identification of Developmental and Behaviour problems in Toddlers (TIDBIT)

Developmental problems (e.g., language delay, global developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder) are estimated to affect approximately 3% of the preschool population in Singapore.
Research has shown that timely identification and early intervention for developmental problems result in better outcomes for the children.

The Timely Identification of Developmental and Behaviour problems in Toddlers (TIDBIT) study aims to

Compare the effectiveness of our Singapore Health Booklet with other established tools for developmental screening in young children
Determine which screening tool is most easy for use by local parents to monitor their child’s development

We are currently recruiting from infant care centres, family service centres, and other community venues.

We need information from children who are developing normally, and children who are at risk of developmental problems.

If your child is between 15 and 30 months of age, we invite you and your child to join our study.

Up to two screening visits (approximately 30 to 45 mins each; with parent only) when your child is 18 months old and 30 months old, at your home or place of convenience near your home/workplace/child’s infant care centre.
Up to two assessment visits (approximately 1.5 to 2 hrs each; with parent and child) within 1 to 3 months of your child turning 18 and 30 months old, at our study site.
A brief telephone call (approximately 5 to 10 mins; with parent only) when your child is 36 months old, for us to get an update on your child’s development.
A token of appreciation will be given on completion of each screening/assessment visit.

If you and your child join the study, your child will be provided with developmental screening that is in addition to the well-child check-ups with your polyclinic or private doctor.
Your child may also have a comprehensive developmental assessment done, and the results will be shared with you.
