Synonym(s):

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a condition where the womb lining responsible for menstruation (or endometrium) is found outside the womb. It is a common condition affecting about 10 per cent of women. As many as 30% of women complaining of severe menstrual pain are found to be suffering from endometriosis, but the condition is often under diagnosed as it may also be present in women with symptoms unrelated to periods or those who experience minimal discomfort. Endometriosis can cause inflammation, scarring and adhesions of tissues in the pelvis, resulting in infertility and debilitating pain.

You may have endometriosis if you suffer from any of the following symptoms:

  1. Painful menstruation
  2. Pain during sexual activity
  3. Chronic pelvic pain
  4. Heavy or irregular menstruation
  5. Pelvic bloating (from endometriotic cysts or enlarged womb from infiltrative endometriosis)
  6. Subfertility
  7. Bowel-related symptoms during menstruation (painful bowel movements, diarrhea, constipation)
  8. Urinary-related symptoms during menstruation (painful urination, bloody urination)

You can also be asymptomatic and have endometriosis or endometriotic cysts.

Announcements 16 preschools establish a new service model to identify developmental, growth and oral health needs in children from 2 months old. Model to expand to more preschools Ella1 was enrolled as an 18-month-old playgroup (PG) student at a PCFSP at Punggol in October 2022. After a few months, as part of routine monitoring based on a surveillance checklist developed by MIP2, educators noted that compared to her peers, Ella was not communicating verbally and played alone. While Ella was able to follow instructions, she was unable to express her needs verbally. Typically, such behaviours may have been attributed to her young age and gone unidentified until they worsen. However, under the MIP2 service model and the guidance of the School Child Development Unit (SCDU), Ella was identified to be at risk and require low levels of support for developmental needs based on the MIP2 service model.
