Kawasaki Disease

Kawasaki Disease - What it is

​Kawasaki Disease is an illness that usually affects children less than 4 years old, though older children may get it too.

There is usually inflammation of the small and medium sized blood vessels in the body and presents with the following features:

  • High fever for at least 5 days
  • Conjunctivitis (red or sore eyes)
  • Dry red lips, a red tongue
  • Skin rash
  • Swollen lymph nodes in the neck
  • Swollen and red hands and feet and later in the illness, peeling of skin on toes and fingers.
