Zidovudine - Dosage and How to Use

How should Zidovudine be used?

Zidovudine is usually taken 2 to 3 times daily, with or without food.

It is usually given in combination with at least two other antiretroviral agents but may be given alone, in certain circumstances.

What should I do if I miss a dose?

Missing doses make Zidovudine less effective and may also make the virus resistant to Zidovudine and other possible antiretroviral agents.

If you forget to take a dose, don’t worry. You can take your next dose as soon as you remember but not within two hours of your next dose. If you remember within two hours of your next dose, just skip the dose you missed and take your next dose at the usual time. Then continue your treatment as before.

Don’t take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

If your child vomits within 15 minutes of administration, give another dose as possible.
