The KKH Blood Bank provides 24-hour blood compatibility testing services for patients at KK Women's and Children's Hospital. The Blood Bank provides a wide range of blood and blood products including red blood cells, pooled platelets, single unit platelet concentrates, cell separated platelets, frozen plasma and pooled cryoprecipitate. These blood products are supplied by the Blood Services Group, Health Sciences Authority (HSA).
The Blood Bank performs immunohaematology tests including ABO and Rh typing, pre-transfusion screening for clinically significant red cell antibodies, polyspecific and monospecific Direct Coombs tests. The laboratory also offers supportive investigations for haemolytic disease of the newborn (NNJ) and adverse transfusion reactions.
In addition, the Blood Bank provides blood product and logistics support for the Hospital's Autologous Blood Collection Programme, Massive Transfusion Protocols and the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) programme.
