SingHealth Duke-NUS Diabetes Centre
Clinical Professor
Professor Fabian Yap is currently Senior Consultant and Head of the Paediatric Endocrinology Service of the Division of Paediatric Medicine at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH).
Prof Yap obtained his basic medical degree (MBBS) from NUS in 1992. From 1996 to 1998, he received general paediatric training at SGH, NUH and KKH, which culminated in his postgraduate degrees (Masters of Medicine in Paediatrics; Membership of the Royal College of Physicians) in 1998. In 1999, Prof Yap joined KKH as a paediatrician, choosing Paediatric Endocrinology as his sub specialty. His specialist training in clinical paediatric endocrinology was undertaken at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in Sydney, from 2002 to 2003, under the supervision of Professors Martin Silink and Christopher Cowell.
He was elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (Paediatrics) in 2005 and as Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in the United Kingdom in 2011. He was a pioneer graduate from the inaugural Singapore Management University-SingHealth Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management and Leadership programme. Thereafter, he served as a Council Member of the College of Paediatrics and Child Health Singapore from 2011 to 2019, where he was its Treasurer from 2014 to 2015 and Vice-President from 2016 to 2017. He was member of the KKH’s Medical Board from 2011 to 2020.
His special interests include the care of children with growth and puberty disorders, setting up systems to improve the care of babies with hypoglycemia and children with hyperglycemia, and integrating the clinical care of mothers and infants. These align with his research interests to understand the early origins of metabolic disease so as to reduce the impact of non-communicable disease on the lives of children and their families.
