Respiratory Medicine
Objectives
For one-year posting:
Upon completion, the trainee should be competent in
- Management of acute and chronic respiratory problems
- Doing and Interpreting pulmonary function tests
- Scoring and reporting of polysomnography and other sleep studies
- Perform flexible bronchoscopy +/- bronchoalveolar lavage
For six-month posting:
Upon completion, the trainee should be competent in
- Management of acute and chronic respiratory problems
- Doing and Interpreting pulmonary function tests and achieve basic skills in
- Scoring and reporting of polysomnography and other sleep studies
- Perform flexible bronchoscopy +/- bronchoalveolar lavage.
For three-month posting:
Upon completion, the trainee should be able to manage acute and chronic respiratory problems with an emphasis on asthma.
Course Contents
The programme provides the opportunity to:
- Be exposed to childhood respiratory diseases and its management
- Supervised training in performing flexible bronchoscopy
- Supervised training in managing sleep disorders and scoring and reporting sleep studies
- Supervised training in evaluation of pulmonary function tests

Clinical Fellowship
For Whom
Doctors who aspire to subspecialise in Paediatric Pulmonology/Sleep Medicine
Pulmonary Allergy and Sleep Technologists who want to achieve competency in paediatric testing (for laboratory attachment segment only)
Pre-requisite
Candidates must be board certified by their respective institutions in Paediatric Medicine or Paediatric Pulmonary Medicine or have the equivalent recognition by the relevant national medical bodies.
Success of the fellowship application is also contingent on approval by the Singapore Medical Council for a temporary medical practicing license.

| - Conduct three to four sessions per week of the ambulatory clinics consisting of the general respiratory referral clinics, high risk asthma clinic, home care and sleep clinics, under the supervision of a respiratory consultant
- Rostered to run the respiratory consult service
- Daily supervised sleep scoring and reporting
- One month rotation to the respiratory and allergy laboratory
- Observe/Supervised flexible bronchoscopy
- Observe/assist in an overnight polysomnogram

6-month posting
| - Conduct three to four sessions per week of the ambulatory clinics consisting of the general respiratory referral clinics, high risk asthma clinic, home care and the sleep clinic, under the supervision of a respiratory consultant
- Rostered to run the respiratory consult service
- Daily supervised sleep scoring and reporting
- One month rotation to the respiratory and allergy laboratory

- Observe/Assist in an overnight polysomnogram

Training Dates/Period
Start Date: January or June. Flexibility on a case by case basis.
Certification
Certificate of Fellowship in General Pulmonology/Sleep Medicine/Flexible bronchoscopy as determined by duration of fellowship and competency level in the various areas at the end of the fellowship.
Positions/Training Places
Doctors: Between one and 3 per year
Technologists: A maximum of two at any one time
Course Fee
Fees will be determined upon application.
Funding
Candidates should be self-funded or have funding from external sources/institutions
One year fellowship – Sponsorship possible
