Updates in Clinical Dietetics

Objective

To provide an opportunity for Dietitians to be updated on clinical practices in infant, paediatric and women's nutrition.

Course Contents

The course can be customized to suit the requirements of the participant. Topics can be selected from the following areas:

infants with poor weight gain
children with feeding issues, obesity, type 1 diabetes, food allergies and intolerances
adolescents with eating disorders
pregnant women with gestational diabetes, or who are on restricted diets, e.g. vegetarian
women with gynaecological cancer

In the course of the attachment, participants will also be updated on infant and growing up milk formulas, medical nutritional products, and dietetic foods.

Clinical Attachment in Dietetics

Objective

To provide an opportunity for nutrition and dietetics students to understand the range of dietetics services offered in a women’s and children’s hospital and to gain knowledge of the skills required in the profession.

Course Contents

Gain exposure to the nutritional management of infants, children and women in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Gain understanding of the hospital food service system for therapeutic diets.
Gain exposure of other patient-related activities undertaken by dietitians, e.g. development of patient education materials, delivery of nutrition talks, and participation in support group activities.

Students pursuing a BSc or MSc degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or Dietetics

Completed 1st year of their BSc or MSc programme in Nutrition and Dietetics or Dietetics

Observational Attachment

Objective

To provide an opportunity for people considering a career in Dietetics to gain an understanding of the role of a dietitian in a hospital setting.

Course Contents

Gain exposure to the work of dietitians with regards to the nutritional management of infants, children and women in inpatient and outpatient settings.
