About the course:Healthy early childhood forms the foundation for long-term physical and mental well-being. Thus, the key to a sustainable population health is to promote good health and appropriate lifestyle in early childhood. However, prevention of illness is not the emphasis of healthcare providers’ training, as the focus has been on disease identification and treatment, largely to support institution practice.
This course was constructed with a focus on biopsychosocial lens to empower healthcare providers to:
- provide integrated, holistic care to children to improve long-term health,
- empower clinicians with soft skills needed to work in partnership with the community and community agencies,
- value add and enhance current practices of healthcare providers in the community,
by promoting and integrating, positive social and environmental factors in anticipatory care and advocacy, especially for the vulnerable group and children with special needs.
- Duration: 12 months (part-time basis)
- Hybrid format: combination of face-to-face sessions, Zoom lectures and online self-study
- Comprises 5 modules, with each module about 6 weeks long, including self-study and 10-15 hours of face-to-face sessions for each module
- No summative examination
- Team project to consolidate the knowledge and skills acquired through the five modules.
Who it is for:Healthcare providers / to-be healthcare providers in the community, satisfying one of following:
- Medical doctor with M.Med(Paed), M.Med (Family Medicine) or equivalent, and has completed 3 years of junior residency/medical officer rotation
- Family physician/GP with a Graduate Diploma and at least 3 years of relevant practice
- Existing specialists who are passionate in community practice and advocacy
- Advanced Practice Nurse with Masters in Nursing (Advanced Practice Nurse) and at least 1 year of experience in clinical practice
- Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of relevant experience
- Allied Health Practitioners with at least 3 years of relevant experience in caring for children
