Our Range of Services

Women’s Services

We offer Psychological services to inpatients as well as outpatients with the ultimate aim of empowering women to deal with their psychological issues independently.

Our psychologists work one-to-one with women patients within an atmosphere of trust and confidentiality. They assess the patient’s state of mind, circumstances and offer psychotherapy tailored to meet their specific need. Depending on a patient’s situation, our psychologists may also involve her partner and family during the counselling and treatment.

Our Inpatient Psychology Services primarily serve women who have psychological concerns caused and/or aggravated by their medical conditions.

Our Outpatient Psychology Clinic helps women with a variety of health and mental health concerns, including

  • Coping with the process of pregnancy and childbirth
  • Going through grief and bereavement
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Mood disorders
  • Marital issues
  • Working with sexual concerns
  • Stress and anger management
  • Adjusting and coping with medical illness

Children’s Services

Our Psychology Service treats children and adolescents between seven and sixteen years of age. We provide services for a wide range of emotional, behavioural and learning concerns that may be causing personal distress or interfering with daily life and/or social functioning.

Our services are classified into two categories: Psychological Assessments and Psychological Therapy.

Psychological Assessments & Testing

We provide psychological assessments for children with:

  • Learning difficulties
  • Intellectual/educational concerns and school placement issues
  • Medical conditions that may affect learning e.g. epilepsy, brain tumours, traumatic brain injury.
  • School readiness and school placement issues

Comprehensive cognitive, neuropsychological, educational, developmental and achievement tests are administered to evaluate a child’s intellectual, learning ability and social sufficiency. Once an assessment is carried out, the psychologist will draw up an intervention program that enables each child to reach his/her fullest potential.

Psychological Intervention

We also provide psychological interventions to help children, adolescents and their families cope with psychological problems as a result of daily stressors, chronic illnesses and physical disabilities. Some of the common concerns that we treat are:

  • Behavioural problems
  • Low self-esteem and confidence
  • Emotional problems (e.g. Depression, school refusal, separation anxiety disorder)
  • Deliberate self-harm
  • Stress & tension
  • Eating disorders
  • Social skills problems
  • Anger issues
  • Parent training
  • Coping with chronic illness
  • Chronic pain

Specialised Outpatient Psychology Clinics for Children and Adolescents

We run a range of specialized children and adolescent psychology clinics to cater to the specific social, cognitive, emotional and psychological needs of each child, adolescent and family related to the medical condition. The specialized clinics available are:

  1. Chronic Pain Clinic
  2. Paediatric Neuropsychology Clinic
  3. Adolescent Clinic
  4. Cleft and Craniofacial Clinic

Consultation and Duration of Treatment

The first consultation with a psychologist comprises an intake interview to gain a better understanding of the child’s/adolescent's problem. Parents or caregivers are strongly encouraged to accompany their child for their appointments.

Following the intake interview, the psychologist recommends an intervention programme for the child/adolescent. If psychological assessments (e.g. intelligence tests) are required, the tests will be administered during subsequent sessions.

Parents are actively involved during the assessment and treatment process. Consultation and liaison are also often coordinated with the school and other medical and healthcare professionals to better understand the child/adolescent from different perspectives.

Since psychological problems are usually rooted in many causes, the treatment may be more complex and spread over a period of time. As such, children/adolescents and their families usually require several sessions with our psychologist. Should psychological assessment be required, each session may last two to three hours.
