Allergies are common among children. Allergies to foods such as eggs, milk, nuts and shrimp and environmental factors such as dust mites often manifest as disorders of the skin or respiratory system and in severe cases, the other systems.

As a specialist hospital for children, our Allergy team provides a comprehensive service to children with various allergic conditions. Patients and their families benefit from a holistic, multidisciplinary team approach which emphasises education and empowerment of patients and their carers.


Our expertise extends to:

  • The evaluation and management of food allergy, eczema, allergic rhinitis/ conjunctivitis, asthma, urticaria/angioedema, anaphylaxis, drug and vaccine allergies.
  • Management of patients with multiple or complex allergies
  • Management of patients with multiple or unique food allergies
  • Safe supervision of food and drug challenges in hospital
  • Assessment of patients for house dust mite sublingual immunotherapy. Proper administration of immunotherapy including immunotherapy dose adjustment and management of complications.
  • Provision of allergen avoidance advice
  • Patient education on the use of devices such as inhalers and adrenaline auto-injectors for severe allergic reactions, and allergy action plans.

  • House Dust Mite Sublingual Immunotherapy (SLIT)

  • Multidisciplinary Food Allergy and Eczema Clinic (multidisciplinary team consisting of Allergist, Dermatologist and Specialist Dietician)
  • Multidisciplinary Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Clinic (multidisciplinary team consisting of Allergist, Gastroenterologist and Specialist Dietician)

KKH and TII recognised as World Allergy Organization Centre of Excellence

KKH and the SingHealth Duke-NUS Translational Immunology Institute (TII) have jointly been accepted as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) by the World Allergy Organisation (WAO), joining close to 80 academic medical centres worldwide in advancing allergology and clinical immunology.

This will give KKH more opportunities for collaborations with WAO on educational programmes and research studies and help pave the way forward for better clinical outcomes for children with allergies such as food allergy, allergic rhinitis, asthma, eczema and immunodeficiency disorders.

Community Outreach

  • We hold the Childhood Food Allergy and Asthma Workshop catering to Preschool and Primary School teachers on a regular basis, to improve awareness and understanding of food allergy in schools, and to train teachers on the use of adrenaline auto-injectors.
  • We conduct lectures/ talks regularly to our community healthcare partners including family physicians and private paediatricians, to provide updates on diagnosis and management of allergic diseases.
 

Clinical Trials and Research

  • Our Allergy team is actively involved in clinical trials and research to constantly look into ways to improve the standard of care for our patients.
