Additional Information

Congenital mesoblastic nephroma (CMN) is the most common renal tumour affecting neonates and is generally considered to be benign in nature but locally aggressive.  Morphologically, it does not appear very differently than other renal tumors, but it has a different treatment and follow-up recommendation. A specific translocation resulting in the production of the ETV6-NTRK3 fusion-gene product has been reported in association with the cellular variant of CMN. Our real-time RT-PCR assay detects the presence of this fusion-gene product.

Expected Test Result:
ETV6-NTRK3 fusion is detected/not detected (RNA integrity is acceptable as checked by housekeeping gene)/ The assay is inconclusive (RNA quality is not good enough)

The molecular test result must always be correlated with clinical and histopathological findings by an appropriately trained, qualified and experienced pathologist.
