Additional Information

1) Fast patient overnight
2) At 7am, empty bladder and discard urine. Give oral dose of 5g d(+) xylose in about 250mL water.
3) Withhold food intake but encourage fluid intake.
4) Collect urine (7-9am) Label this "Specimen 1"
5) Collect urine (9-12pm) Label this "Specimen 2"
6) Send both urine specimens to the laboratory.
