Dr Kong completed her training in the USA and is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics as well as Neonatal-perinatal Medicine prior to her move to Singapore. She is currently a senior consultant in KK Hospital and serves as adjunct assistant professor for its 3 affiliated medical schools. Her clinical and research interests are in neonatal resuscitation, global health, quality improvement and preterm nutrition. She had designed and published randomised controlled trials related to neonatal resuscitation and the use of end-tidal carbon dioxide monitoring in the delivery room. She was also site principal investigator and co-investigator for international multicentre resuscitation trials including “The SAIL Trial” and “TORPIDO 30/60 Trial”.
She also spent time in underserved areas of Africa (Uganda), South East Asia (Myanmar) and China, providing neonatal intensive care and teaching trainees as part of the Helping Babies Breathe program. She has led multiple quality improvement projects in neonatal and preterm care which received several awards. As part of her interest in education, she also leads a well-received educational program “KKH Neonatal Excellence Series CME Webinar” open to public as well as private practitioners. Dr Kong sits in several hospital wide committees in KKH including Hospital Medical Emergency Codes and Training Committee, Academic Simulation Committee, Medical Safety Committee and Patient Safety Council.
