Behind the scenes in Singapore General Hospital (SGH), the Robotic Process Automation (RPA) bot is quietly transforming processes, helping to save more than 52,000 man-hours in laborious, repetitive work. Digitalisation and automation of processes have led to patients getting more time with their physiotherapists, and receiving their medication deliveries and surgical bills more quickly. Read about how the bot has changed processes at SGH’s physiotherapy, pharmacy and pre-surgery admission departments -- and how they impact patients, in the latest issue of
Singapore Health.
Also in the issue, we celebrate Prof Ivy Ng for her stalwart leadership as Group Chief Executive Officer of SingHealth over the last 12 years, and look back on the journey of how the organisation has grown and transformed into the dynamic, innovative and vibrant public healthcare system that it is today. She passes the torch to Prof Ng Wai Hoe, who we chatted with to find out more about his love for neurosurgery, reading, long-distance running and hawker food.
We also learn about National Dental Centre Singapore’s new sedation service using nitrous oxide which helps to calm young patients when they visit the dentist; a rare condition called bile acid synthesis disorder; sundowning, a common syndrome associated with dementia; and some little known diseases that might be carried in the air and water in more undeveloped, exotic places in the world.
