VOLUNTEER at KKH

At KKH, our hospital volunteers play an important role in the lives of our patients, helping to support their emotional and social well-being.

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to join us!

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Fulfill the time commitment required for the relevant volunteer programme.
  • Submit proof of required vaccinations before commencing volunteer activities at KKH.

Vaccination Requirements for hospital volunteers:

  • 1 dose of Tdap (taken within the last 10 years)
  • 2 doses of MMR (OR blood test result showing measles, mumps and rubella igG Positive)
  • 2 doses of Varicella (OR blood test result showing Varicella IgG positive)

KKH Volunteer Programmes:

Duties:

  • Assist child patients (aged above 3) during mealtimes
  • Engage child patients with simple activities

Volunteer Criteria:

Age: 17 years and above
Health condition: No health conditions that may potentially affect your volunteering activities (including skin conditions (e.g. eczema) with peeling, cracking or bleeding skin on hands or arms
Period required: One fixed 2-hour timeslot per week (for at least 12 weeks)
OR
One fixed 4-hour timeslot per week (for at least 6 weeks)
Schedule: Weekdays or weekends
  • 9am to 11am 
  • 11am to 1pm
  • 1pm to 3pm
  • 3pm to 5pm
  • 5pm to 7pm
Intakes: Due to overwhelming demand, the next Ward Basic Care (I) volunteer intakes are from June 2026 onwards. 

 

     There will be an online orientation session. Training will also be provided at the assigned ward.

Duties:

  • Assist child patients (1 year and above) during mealtimes
  • Engage child patients with simple activities

Additional duties may include:

  • Caring for infants (carrying and diaper changing)
  • Engaging women patients, including post-natal mothers, to provide comfort and allay anxiety
  • Assisting patients with ambulation (walking with patients)
  • Wheeling discharged patient to taxi stand when necessary
  • Tidying up patient’s bed linen

Volunteer Criteria:

Age: 21 years and above
Health condition: No health conditions that may potentially affect your volunteering activities (including skin conditions (e.g. eczema) with peeling, cracking or bleeding skin on hands or arms) 
Requirements: Experience in caring for infants (for those keen to care for infants or engage post-natal mothers)
Period required: One fixed 2-hour timeslot per week (for at least 12 weeks)
OR
One fixed 4-hour timeslot per week (for at least 6 weeks)
Schedule: Weekdays or weekends
  • 9am to 11am 
  • 11am to 1pm
  • 1pm to 3pm

In your application, please indicate which of the abovementioned duties you are able to perform, and any other relevant experience you have. Suitable applicants will be assigned based on their relevant skills to the wards.

  • Befriend and attend to patients with breast cancer
  • Engage in support group activities

Alpine Blossoms Volunteer Criteria:

Age: 25 years and above
Profile: Breast Cancer survivor, completed treatment
Period required: Minimum 1 year
Schedule: Once a week on a weekday, 2 to 4 hours

  • Befriend and attend to cancer patients
  • Engage cancer patients in craft / art activities
  • Establish at least once a month contact with assigned patients either by phone or hospital visits

Women's Cancer Support Group Volunteer Criteria:

Age: 21 years and above
Period required: Minimum 1 year
Schedule: Once a week on a fixed weekday, 4 hours
To attend support group meetings once every 2 months

Duties Involved: Engaging children during waiting time at KKH Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging (DDII) with craft activity and journey card.    Volunteer duties include distributing and facilitating use of journey card with child patients, and checking any fault at activity areas.   

Volunteer shift:     Mon / Tue / Wed / Fri  9.30-11.30am / 2.30-4.30pm   

Volunteer commitment: At least 1x/ week on a fixed weekday for 2 hours per session. Minimum of 3 months continuous commitment after orientation   

Minimum age requirement: 17 years and above   

Additional information:   

  • You may register to volunteer for one or more shift. 
  • Upon completion of a minimum of 24 hours of volunteers (e.g. 2 hours per week for 12 weeks), a Letter of Participation will be issued to each volunteer upon request, certifying the number of hours volunteered. 
  • To ensure consistency of engagement with patients, please note that regular attendance is required. The programme organisers have the discretion to ask those who do not have consistent attendance to withdraw from the programme and consider joining another intake when their schedule allows consistent attendance. 
  • Orientation will be provided.
