DNA Extraction

Synonym(s):
Specimen Container
  1. Original syringe or Sterile tissue culture grade container
  2. Sterile container with CV/POC transport media (To be obtained from Cytogenetics Laboratory)    
Specimen Requirement
1) Amniotic Fluid (AF):
30-40ml. (For GA < 16 weeks, may subject to use cultured cells for extraction)
 
2) Skin biopsy (SB): 
Specimen should be taken ASEPTICALLY under local anaesthesia, preferably not from groin area due to increased risk of fungal infection. Size: 3-4mm in diameter, including dermis. Shallow or conical biopsies that fail to reach dermis are not satisfactory. Place specimen in transport media.
 
3) Product of Conception (POC):
  1. For termination of pregnancy - amniotic sac, chorionic villi 
  2. For autopsies - gonads /skin 
  3. For ectopic / molar pregnancies - any products of conception, fallopian tubes.
Sterile technique must be observed. Products of Conception (POC) specimens will be entirely processed. No residual tissue will be available for return or subsequent analysis.
