Paediatric Neurology

Paediatric Neurology at KKH cares for children with disorders and emergencies of the brain, nerves and muscle. It is a multidisciplinary team comprising paediatric neurologists, neurology resource nurses, technologists, therapists, dieticians and pharmacists to provide holistic care for the child with neurological problems. We offer specialty clinics in Epilepsy, the Ketogenic Diet/Modified Atkins Diet and for children affected by spasticity.

Range of Services

Inpatient services:

  • Diagnosis and management of acute neurological emergencies including seizures and epilepsy, Guillain-Barre syndrome, ADEM, optic neuritis, transverse myelitis, encephalitis, refractory status epilepticus and pediatric stroke
  • Inpatient video EEG, continuous bedside video EEG and epilepsy monitoring for video-EEG monitoring for definitive diagnosis and better characterisation of seizures
  • The first pediatric centre in Singapore offering extra-operative subdural EEG monitoring (grid surgery) for medically refractory epilepsy

Outpatient services:

  • Paediatric Neurology Clinic for the diagnosis, investigation and management of children with epilepsy, global developmental delay, neuromuscular disorders, movement disorders (including Tourette syndrome), neurometabolic disorders, headache disorders and other neurological disorders
  • Epilepsy Clinic for the diagnosis, investigation and management of seizures and epilepsy, including medically refractory epilepsy. Treatment modalities offered include advanced anticonvulsant therapy, dietary therapy (including the ketogenic diet and modified Atkins diet), epilepsy surgery and vagus nerve stimulator implantation
  • Neuroimmunology Clinic for the management of children with autoimmune disorders of the central nervous system.
