Obstetrics Gynaecology

Synonym(s):

A women’s body is constantly developing and changing from puberty to after menopause. Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) specialists provide medical care of the female reproductive system and care of pregnant women.

Obstetric services includes:

  • Antenatal care (before birth)
  • Intrapartum care (during labor and delivery)
  • Postnatal care (after birth)

Gynaecology services includes:

  • Management of common gynaecological problems e.g. menstrual disorders, amenopause, pelvi-abdominal masses, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, urinary prolapse and urinary complaints
  • Management of unintended pregnancies
  • Contraceptive services
  • Management of menopause e.g. symptoms, use of hormone replacement therapy and prevention and detection of osteoporosis
  • Urgent obstetric & gynaecological consultations at KK Women's and Children's Hospital's Urgent O&G Centre

Pilot Programme:

  • Temasek Foundation Achieving Resilient & Inspiring Families (Project ARIF)

    The Temasek Foundation Achieving Resilient & Inspiring Families (Project ARIF)* aims to provide better support to couples in preparation for marriage and family life, and to optimise maternal wellness and child development. This pilot project is a collaboration between Temasek Foundation, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) and the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis).

    Under the programme, each couple will receive a specially-developed guide book on maternal and child health and invitations to attend a series of webinars, both put together by a dedicated team of doctors, nurses and medical social workers from KKH in collaboration with community partners. This programme is also supported by Naib Kadis (officials of religious standings and solemnisers of Muslim marriages) and mosque personnel from the North Cluster of Singapore.
