Women's Dermatology

Synonym(s):

Skin conditions are very common in women. Not only do they suffer from common skin diseases that affect the general population (e.g. eczema, psoriasis and warts), they may also suffer from specific skin conditions that only occur in women. Pregnant women may develop itchy or blistering skin rashes that occasionally may lead to problems in the unborn baby. Genital or vulvar rashes can affect all age groups of women and can lead to significant psychological and sexual impairment. Acne, although most commonly seen in teenagers, can affect women of all age groups. If untreated, acne can lead to significant scarring and pigmentation problems. Other pigmentation problems (e.g. melisma and age spots) are also commonly seen in women.

Apart from skin conditions, our women's dermatology service also diagnoses and manages problems related to hair and nails e.g. hair loss and nail infections.

Our women's dermatology service provides a wide range of investigations and treatments for skin conditions including skin scrapings (for fungal and scabies infection), cryotherapy (for warts and liver/age spots), skin biopsies, electrocautery (for warts and liver/age spots), phototherapy, DCP immunotherapy, iontophoresis, chemical peels, botulinum toxin injection and laser surgery (for pigmentation, hair removal and skin resurfacing).
