Cardiac Anaesthesia

The department has been involved in the care of more than several thousand cardiac surgical cases since the paediatric cardiothoracic unit in KKH was formed in 1997. We collaborate with the specialists from the various departments such as paediatric cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery and intensive care to provide anaesthetic care for routine and complicated cases on elective and emergent basis for patients ranging from premature neonates to young adults.

In addition, we provide remote anaesthetic care for patients requiring cardiac catheterization study or MRI scans in KKH and diagnostic or interventional procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory in another institution, namely SGH. Since 2012, the cardiac anaesthesia team also supports the care of critically ill children in the paediatric and neonatal intensive care units who are on the hospital ECMO program.
