Patient Preparation:

1. Fasting: 12 hours, required; Infants should have specimen
collected just before next feeding, water can be taken as needed

2. For 12 hours before specimen collection, patient should not take
vitamin supplements. 

Specimen Storage/Transport

Do not spin & aliquot.

Protect EDTA tube from light by wrapping with aluminium foil. Send specimen with ice pack to the laboratory.

  1.  Transfer whole blood into amber vial to protect from light
  2.  Freeze whole blood immediately before the next transport
    available.
