Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is also known as key-hole or laparoscopic surgery.
Laparoscopic surgery involves the surgeon performing surgery with small incisions made in the abdomen. The surgeon will visualise the pelvic organs using a thin fibre optic tube. This surgical technique is good for patients as there is less complications when compared to open surgery. Patients benefit from good cosmesis and less post-operative pain. Furthermore, hospital stay and recovery time is shortened.
KK MIS Centre has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence. We are an APAGE accredited training centre for Minimally Invasive Gynaecology. Our operating theatres are equipped with the latest equipment and technology. Our surgeons and team strive to bring you world class expertise and care here in Singapore. We also provide fellowship training and education to local and foreign trained doctors wishing to enhance their skills in MIS.

Training
We are an internationally recognised training centre and we have a robust MIS Unit Fellowship Programme for local as well as international gynaecologists seeking to advance their laparoscopic and hysteroscopic skills. With defined objectives covering anatomy, energy sources, ergonomics, tissue handling and suturing technique, the Fellowship Programme aims to develop the Fellow’s laparoscopic and hysteroscopic skills to an advanced level. Each training programme lasts 6 to 12 months.
From 1998 to 2025, we have trained 50 international fellows from various countries including Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, India, China, Belgium and Germany.
Since 2016, we have been recognised as an Asia-Pacific Association for Gynaecologic Endoscopy and Minimally Invasive Therapy (APAGE) accredited centre for Minimally Invasive Gynaecology.
Research
Research forms an integral part of our unit to enhance the quality of our services and care. Several clinical research projects are conducted every year with yearly presentations at international and local conferences.
A key highlight in recent years is the development of increased understanding and treatment of caesarean scar pregnancies and disorders and the role of novel minimally invasive surgical techniques in managing these conditions.
