Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Outcome - 5 and 10 year survival rates of patients with Lupus Nephritis

• The Rheumatology and Immunology Service at KK Women's and Children's Hospital, Singapore was established in January 2009. The center specializes in treating rheumatic and immunologic disorders in children and young adults. The center provides state-of-the-art clinical care through a multidisciplinary team, comprising pediatric rheumatologists and allied-health professionals for holistic management of systemic autoimmune-autoinflammatory diseases.
• The center serves as the pediatric rheumatology referral center for Asia Pacific region and beyond.   The center has maintained the REgistry for Childhood Onset Rheumatic DiseaseS (RECORDS) since its inception, along with close research collaborations with our basic science research facilities (Translational Immunology Institute, TII) and international research networks as a national PRINTO (Paediatric Rheumatology INternational Trials Organisation) coordinating center, for our active clinical and translational research projects.
• Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own tissues, causing widespread inflammation and tissue damage in the affected organs. SLE can be life threatening. Kidney involvement, known as lupus nephritis (LN), is a frequent and severe manifestation of SLE that can result in end-stage renal failure if left untreated.
• Here at KKH, the outcomes for SLE and LN remain superior compared to international benchmark. The 5 and 10-year patient survival rate is 99.3% and the 5 and 10-year kidney survival rate is 100%, with no patients progressing to end-stage renal failure.
