HELMS - Call for Study Participants

Can I embark on the HELMS journey?

We are looking for women who fulfil the following criteria*:

• Between 21 and 40 years old
• Body mass index of 25 to 40 kg/m2
• Residing in Singapore for the next 4 years
• Possess a device with internet access
• Able to understand English
• Planning to conceive within 1 year
• To be under the care of KKH before pregnancy until delivery of your child
• No pre-existing Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes

What should I expect?

Throughout your HELMS journey before, during and after pregnancy (up till 18 months after delivery), we will:

1. Perform body measurements
2. Collect bio-specimens (stool, blood, placenta and breast milk samples)
3. Conduct interviews and surveys
4. Provide an activity and sleep tracker to monitor your physical activity and sleep
5. Provide guidance for healthy lifestyles and parentcraft
6. Provide supplements

For your spouse, we will:

1. Conduct surveys (3 times in total)
2. Perform body measurements (not more than 10 min, on each visit whenever your spouse is present)
3. Collect blood (once)
