Introduction:

Early childhood is an important opportunity to develop healthy eating and regular physical activity habits for life and prevent weight problems.
It is important to stay active amidst a global pandemic.

Our Aims:

Encourage families to lead a healthy lifestyle at home
Get children and parents to be physically active and learn about nutrition through an interactive online program

Who we are looking for:

Children aged four to seven years old above the normal weight range
Able to understand and speak English
Accompanying parent

What is the study about?

Participants will undergo eligibility screening and if found to be eligible, will be randomised to join one of the following groups. This means participants will be assigned to the 2 groups below by chance, like tossing a coin.

Information Group: Participants will take part in goal setting and counselling visit with the physician, receive informational materials, weighing scale, measuring tape, fitness tracker and age-appropriate reading books.

Intervention Group: Participants will take part in goal setting and counselling visit with the physician, receive informational materials, weighing scale, measuring tape, fitness tracker as well as be invited to participate in the online KKH Sport Singapore programme for 3 months. Participants will also receive basic sports equipment and cooking materials for the online programme. Online sessions will be available 4 times a week. Each session will be 45 minutes long. There will be 3 exercise sessions where a sports trainer will lead parent and child in physical activity. There will be 1 nutrition session where a dietitian will share topics on nutrition and hands-on cooking demonstrations.

The programme will commence from October 2020 to March 2021.

You will be required to attend three assessment visits – immediately prior to your first study visit, at 3-month follow-up and 6-month follow-up. These visits can be conducted either at a KKH clinic or online visit.

A token of appreciation will be given on completion of each assessment visit.
